Freelance

I’ve been a stuff maker for companies and clients like McGraw - Hill / Scholastic, Dream Box, KEXP and Gama-Go. I’ve designed posters promoting big events and for bands that couldn’t sellout a phone booth. Cards, journals, t-shirts, stickers, spot illustrations for online articles, chalkboards for weddings and chalkboards for divorces. Well, not yet… but you never know.

Freelance

I’ve been a stuff maker for companies and clients like McGraw - Hill / Scholastic, Dream Box, KEXP and Gama-Go. I’ve designed posters promoting big events and also for bands that couldn’t sellout a phone booth. Cards, journals, t-shirts, stickers, spot illustrations, chalkboards for weddings and chalkboards for divorces. Well, not yet… but you never know.

Editorial Illustrations

I love how editorial illustrations bring stories to life and help readers become that much more invested in the content being presented. It’s worked well for publications like The New Yorker and as the printed piece is breathing it’s last breath, the digital world has given new life to the marriage of illustration and the written word. Below are editorial illustrations that I have made for The Stranger and other online blogs and pieces dealing with subject matters like dating apps, people that kill their spouses in unusual ways, easy street economics and springtime festivities for kids.

Digital Cover Art for The Stranger Weekly Newspaper - The concept was to highlight the bounty of goodness that can be found at the Capitol Hill Farmer’s Market during the Summer months in Seattle

Dreambox Learning

My illustration style tends to work well with companies who make things for kids. Dreambox in an online math learning service that specializes in helping make math fun for young folks. Wish this was around when I was a kid. For this project, I was able to create fun and colorful wallpapers that grade schoolers could choose for their homepage. I also created creature-like icons which they could use for their avatars.

Compendium Paper Goods

I had the fun task of making a few illustrations that were put on the cover of journals made by Compendium Inc. One illustration was based around the quote about reality, which turns out is my life philosophy. The other journal featured a common greeting used by our cousins across the pond, the US version of “How’s it going?”

Logos & Icons

My freelance experience has taken me into the realm of logos, icons and infographics used by companies that do all sorts of things; from dealing with data storage to running a day camp for kids in the summertime. One of these things seems more fun than the other, but I’ll let you decide.

Greeting Cards

I’ve always been fascinated with the act of sending correspondence to another person. Whether saying thank you, saying sorry or just saying hello, I’m a big fan of expressing yourself through a card. Here are some examples of cards I’ve had the chance to make, some that were sold at Hallmark, some found online.

Show Posters

Making something to post for others to notice about something happening which that person might want to see. It’s a tried and true form of communication. Since moving to Seattle, I have been beholden to the amazing art form of poster making that has been perfected in the northwest thanks to an embarrassment of riches in the form of music and performances.

Products

Some of the things that I’ve made still get put on stuff that you can touch. Stickers, t-shirts and travel mugs to be specific. Below are examples of collateral that I created for Microsoft Dev Day, including stickers and t-shirts. I also had the opportunity to make a hot-button political illustration placed on travel mugs made by Vessel Drinkware.
